Questions we are asked most
Can foreigners buy property in Germany?
Yes. Germany places no restrictions on property ownership by foreign nationals, whether or not you are resident here. The purchase is notarised, and the notary handles the transfer of title. We guide you through every step in English.
We are a US military family. Does this work with our allowances?
Housing allowances such as OHA and BAH are designed for rentals, not purchases. Buying is usually financed through a mortgage — German banks lend to SOFA-status personnel under certain conditions. We can introduce you to lenders who regularly work with military families.
What are the additional purchase costs?
In Rhineland-Palatinate: land transfer tax of 5 %, notary and land registry fees of roughly 1.5 – 2 %, plus the agent’s commission. We set out the exact figures for this property before any viewing.
Can the ground floor unit be rented out?
It has its own outside entrance, kitchen and bathroom, so it can be used independently — as a let, as an office, or for guests and visiting family. We will confirm the exact status under building law with the documents.
